Gandhi Samaj of Chicago continues its tradition of a community picnic each year at a Forest Preserve in Chicago. More than 400 members join to mingle with each other, play games and have a good time bonding with others. We serve breakfast, lunch and ice-cream for this event.
GSC celebrates Navratri night each year for an evening full of music and dance. Hundreds of members and devotees gather to take part in Aarti. For last few years we are happy to bring live band with a singer to make event more lively.
Diwali or the festival of lights is the biggest festival of Hindu. It also marks the beginning of new year for many people. For GSC this is a big event where community attends traditional dinner and program by kids and adults for 3 hrs. It's an evening filled with joy and happiness. Community members present awards for Community Service and Best Leadership. Graduates also receive recognition for academic achievement from the Gandhi Samaj of Chicago.
Food Donation Drive
Each year GSC partners with local food pantry to collect any non-expired dry food items or consumables that can be donated. Some of the items you can donate are canned food, cereal, baby food, rice, oatmeal, etc. Food Donation box is kept near the food area at the Picnic for collection.
Community Service Day
We partnered with Shree Jalaram Mandir in Hoffman Estates for annual Community Service Day event.
Since a number of our members attend this mandir, this was a great way to help out and volunteer during the Shrimad Bhagvat Katha. A number of our Samaj members volunteered during the event. This was a rare opportunity to help the Mandir and many in our Samaj were delighted to take this opportunity. We spent our time helping serve lunch to the hundreds of people who attended the event. It’s amazing the memories we can help create with a few hours of our time.
